…………………………………………………………………
Knit with two strands of laceweight yarn held together (one each of Shibui Cima and Silk Cloud), Silver Frost is airy and light, yet deliciously cozy and warm—the perfect midwinter accessory.
The pattern provides instructions for a wide scarf/stole (shown in the photos; 14.5 inches/37 cm wide) and a narrow scarf (8 inches/20 cm wide).
A single strand of fingering weight yarn may be substituted—a merino/silk blend such as Shibui Staccato would lend beautiful softness, sheen, and drape to this design. You’ll need approximately 325 yds/297 m of fingering weight yarn for the narrow scarf or 650 yds/595 m for the wide scarf/stole. Yardage may vary depending on your yarn, needle size, and gauge.
Finished (Blocked) Measurements:
Narrow scarf: 56 inches/142 cm long by 8 inches/20 cm wide
Wide scarf/stole: 62 inches/158 cm long by 14.5 inches/37 cm wide
Gauge:
18 sts/32 rows = 4”/10 cm in texture pattern after blocking
To save time, check gauge.
The scarf’s light, airy fabric depends on obtaining a gauge of approximately 4.5 sts per inch in the Texture Pattern, after blocking. Knitting and blocking a gauge swatch of the Texture Pattern (which is knit using the larger needle) is recommended.
Materials:
--Narrow scarf: 325 yds/297 m each, Shibui Cima 70% superbaby alpaca, 30% fine merino wool; 328yds/300m per 50g skein and Shibui Silk Cloud 60% kid mohair, 40% silk; 330 yd/300m per 50g skein.
