Simon the Koala has big dreams of becoming a firefighter when he is older. For now, he’ll settle with a cute pair of overalls and a fireman hat.
Simon the Koala is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in US (American) terms. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.
Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished items. My Simon is approx. 12cm tall (4¾ inches) without his hat.
You will need:
- 2.20mm hook/B-1 (US)
- 4ply yarn/fingering > less than 50g yarn in each colour: SOFT BLUE, GREY BLUE, DAFFODIL, YELLOW, RED and BLUE
- 9mm safety eyes
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- Stitch marker (optional)
Notes:
- Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
- Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
- Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. without his hat.
- I’ve used the following yarns: o SOFT BLUE = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 110 o GREY BLUE = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 08 o DAFFODIL = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 26 o YELLOW = Hobbii Baby Cotton Organic in col. 26 o RED = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 18 o BLUE = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 28
- I have used plastic safety eyes but you may choose to embroider the eyes. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
