Simplice
Simplice is a simple top that’s a breeze to knit and is versatile enough to go from garden to gala. It is constructed seamlessly from the top down with a round yoke, just a bit of shaping through the bodice, and a flattering peplum. What distinguishes this design from every other sweater tee in your closet is a row of eyelet increases at the waist. These create the silhouette, adding drape and a bit of swing. Simplice can be worn loose, as is, or dressed up with a belt or ribbon threaded through the eyelets.
Included in the instructions are two neckline variations—one, for a plain garter stitch neckline, and two, for a version with a single button placed at the center of the neckline. The sweater can actually be worn with the button in front or back, however you choose.
The peplum on the sample garments occurs at the natural waist. This is purely a matter of preference. The increases for the peplum can occur at any point after the bodice reaches several inches below the fullest part of the bust. Working the increases right below the bust would yield a smock with an empire waist. Or you could make the top straight without waist shaping to the hipline, and then make the peplum shorter and more of a flouncy ruffle. Just remember to take your design changes into consideration when purchasing yarn. If you make the peplum deeper you will need to allow for more yarn. By contrast, if you make Simplice with a short peplum and long bodice you will use less yarn than the amounts listed above. This sweater would be adorable striped or embellished with embroidery or beads. It’s the perfect palette for creative play.
