Welcome to the Simply Stranded Summer Sock Club!

Have you ever imagined being stranded on a magical island - with the perfect climate and plenty of food to forage, or course - with only your knitting to keep you company? Because miraculously, the only piece of luggage to have washed ashore along with you, is your (waterproof) bag containing yarn and needles and notions.

So… What to knit?

Me? I choose colourwork socks. And not just because they seem to go with the ‘stranded’ theme in a delightfully literal way!

But also, because they are small and manageable projects offering in equal measure entertainment and a sense of accomplishment.

Ideally, the socks would be fun and simple, with the charts easy to memorise. I would use colourful yarn.

And by the time of my rescue, I would accumulate a veritable treasure chest of woolly gems.

It’s a ridiculous fantasy of course. And if you’d like to partake in it with me, I invite you to the Simply Stranded Summer Sock Club!

THE LOGISTICS:

Every month from May to September, you shall receive a sock pattern. So 5 patterns in total, over the course of 5 months.

The patterns share the following features:

. instructions for cuff-down and toe-up socks in 4 sizes, suitable for commercial fingering-weight sock yarns (all 5 patterns share the same construction)

. top-down reversible stranded colourwork motifs that can be used either for the entire sock, or for the leg/ cuff only

. extremely simple and fun colourwork charts, based on a 4-stitch repeat - deliberately designed to be easy to memorise and ‘auto-piloty’

. themes pertaining to coastal life on the magical island that is Inishowen, Ireland
