Siren's Song Scarf
A beautiful lace scarf with beautiful shapes of mermaid tails. This scarf was inspired by the sea and the myths surrounding it. Mermaids are a sea tale for centuries, yet they are still passed on from generation to generation in stories and movies. I love the elegant tails of the mermaids - often called Sirens as well. That made me think of this beautiful scarf design made out of a single sock skein.
Some general information about the pattern:
Yarn Requirements:
The pattern is written by using Veluwsch Verfgoed Sock. I used the colorway Veluwe at sea. The pattern requires a fingering-weight yarn, so you can use any brand as long as it has 400 meters. A skein of Veluwsch Verfgoed Sock is 100 grams with a length of 400 meters of yarn. The yarn consists of 75% merino wool and 25% nylon.
The whole pattern is made from one skein of 400-meter yarn. If you like a scarf that’s longer, you need more yarn to make more repeats.
Needle Size needed:
For this pattern, you need 3.75mm needles. It’s your own choice to take regular needles or a circular needle. I used a circular needle with a length of 80 cm/32 inches
Size: The width of the scarf will be 23cm / 9 inches. The length of the shawl will be 150cm/ 60 inches. These measurements are taken after blocking, as blocking increases the size significantly.
The pattern can be easily adjusted to a shorter or longer version by adding or removing repeats.
Gauge: 28 stitches x 36 Rows deliver 10 x 10 cm on 3.75mm needles. However, gauge is not critical here, as long as your work is stretchable and not overly tight. When making a swatch, you can knit it in stockinette stitch.
One repeat of the pattern, measuring 40 Rows and 63 stitches, will be 20 cm/8 inches wide and 13 cm/5 inches high. These measurements apply to unblocked work. After blocking the measurements increase.
