Sjöblom Cowl
This is a soft, warming cowl to wear in all kinds of weather. The simple, repetitive pattern will become easy when you have learnt it by heart. I have put it together in the way I like best for cowls – with provisional cast-on, a twist to make it lie nicely around the neck and grafted together. I worked it in two different colour combinations, the warm shades of the cottage (above, top) or the brick walls and the duller, cooler colours of the shoreline (above, bottom), in a soft 1-ply yarn that performs very well in a pattern with slipped stitches like this one – warm, soft and airy. I have named garments in this pattern Sjöblom as a tribute to the simple, functional, warm everyday clothes that I hope granny and her siblings had when they trotted off to school.
Method: the cowl is knitted as a cylinder and twisted before joining cast-on round with last knitted round. Carefully twist yarns when changing colour. Do not pull to hard, or the pattern will pucker. This pattern invites you to play with colour! Feel free to mix several colours in the pattern. Why not use a variegated yarn for yarn A?
