Skogen Twined Scarf
First Frost Cozy Folk Knitting is available in print and eBook.
The Skogen Twined Scarf is a classic and stylish project that successfully combines the beautiful Swedish technique of tvåänststickat—“two-ended” or twined knitting—with two, tonal shades of yarn. As two ends of yarn are always used in combination for twined knitting—both the inner and outer ends of the same ball—this technique lends itself beautifully to blending colors. Madeline Tosh is renowned for her comprehensively sublime color palette, and I felt that the combined earthy, forest shades of Manor and Norway Spruce were evocative of the vast forests that cover great areas of many parts of the Nordic countries (Skogen is Swedish for “forest”).
You can divide your ball of yarn into two separate colors, then as you start knitting, you will be using one end of each color. The Skogen Twined Scarf is a relatively easy project if you are new to the technique of tvåänststickat and a satisfyingly straightforward project if you are just wanting to indulge in all things twined.
