“Look at the sky / Tell me what do you see / Just close your eyes and describe it to me…” – LeAnn Rimes, ‘Looking Through Your Eyes’

The atmosphere holds so many mysteries, that I couldn’t help but use them as inspiration for my newest MKAL wrap design! Not only that, but each section is tied to songs and song lyrics inspired by the skies above, making this a symphony of stitches! Choose and organize your colors, then join the discussion in my Paper Daisy Creations group. Get ready to cast on and remember… the sky’s the limit!

What to expect:

  • unique construction
  • lace
  • bias knitting
  • cables
  • slipped stitches
  • color changes

All techniques with charts will also include written instructions. I’ve created tutorial videos to guide you through any new techniques. There will NOT be any stranded colorwork, intarsia, or brioche. This design is intended for intermediate knitters, but my patterns and tutorials are designed to guide adventurous beginner skills to the next level. The best part of a KAL… there will be lots of helpful knitters to keep your head out of the clouds!

Finished dimensions:
Still a mystery! (See my previous MKAL wraps to get an idea of the general size and shape it could be: Garden Variety, Just Beachy, Mountain Musings, Secret Forest, Wings of Wonder, and Cosmic Connections)

Skydiving Gear:
Needles:
Two sets of US 5 (3.75 mm) needles (or as required to meet gauge); 32” / 80 cm, 40” / 100 cm, or similar length recommended
NOTE: In place of a second set of gauge needles, you can use needles of a smaller gauge, an extra cable, or scrap yarn to put stitches on hold. I recommend choosing gauge needles based on the Swatching Guide and/or the needles used on my previous MKAL wraps.

Gauge:
BLOCKED: 20 sts and 40 rows = 4”/10cm in garter stitch after wet-blocking and pinning
UNBLOCKED: 24 sts and 48 rows = 4”/10cm in garter stitch before blocking
(NOTE: Gauge is not crucial, but it will affect finished dimensions and yardage)

Notions:
Required: 2 stitch markers, cable needle (or paperclip, toothpick, or removable stitch marker to use for cables), and tapestry needle
Optional: 22 stitch markers (for repeats), blocking wires, pins, and mats (see my recommendations)

Yarn Requirements:
MC: 800 yds / 732 m fingering weight yarn
C1-7: 133 yds / 122 m fingering weight yarn in EACH of 7 colors

The sample for this design used Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply in ‘Sky Song’, though other dyers have created kits to give you LOTS of options (see the full list here). This project also works great with stash and leftover yarns! Included in your pattern is a section on ‘Curating Your Own Kit’ with suggestions for compiling your own palette.
