The zigzag cables around the chest of the vest reminded me of the alpine ski racing event Slalom. The cables worked together with the garter stitch around the body make this piece very casual with a great deal of texture. A great project for any knitter who wants to make something for the man in their life.

MATERIALS:
Yarn: Bijou Basin Ranch “Himalayan Trail”, 75% yak/ 25% merino; 200 yards 183 m; 2oz (56 grams) CYCA size 2 sport (12-ply): cream, 5 (6, 7, 9, 10, 11,12) hanks.
Needles: Size US 6 (4 mm) circular needles, 24”; size US 4 (3.5 mm) 24” or size to obtain correct gauge.
Notions: cable needle, stitch holders, tapestry needle.
GAUGE:
24 sts and 48 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Garter st with lager needles..
24 sts and 35 rows = 3.5” (8.9 cm) Slalom Cable pat with larger needles.
