Slate Pool Socks
Fast, fun sport-weight sock with offset cable accents and stripes to keep things interesting. Your choice of toe up or cuff down socks, featuring short row toes and extra-deep short row heels. Love cables, but hate counting? As an added bonus, the stripes really help to keep track of your row count. Includes 2 separate pattern PDFs: one for toe-up, one for cuff down. Both feature full written instructions, and the stitch and stripe pattern are both fully written and charted.
Yarn: Two colors of sport-weight yarn. Shown in: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport (200 yds/183 m, 70g/2.46 oz), in colors “Pewter” (MC) and “Tahoe” (CC). Total yardage will depend on length.
Gauge: 6 sts/in, (24 sts/4in, 24 sts/10cm) in stockinette st.
Row gauge in stockinette: 9 sts/in (36 sts/4in, 36 sts/10cm) Row gauge only needed for reference for heel placement.
Needles: In size needed to obtain gauge. I used US size 1.5/2.25mm DPNs. Pattern also includes setup tips for using small circulars or working 2 at a time on 2 circulars instead.
Notions: Stitch markers.
Sizes: 6 sizes, by circumference. Select a size with approximately 1in/2.5cm of negative ease. 6.6in/17cm (40st), 7.33in/18.5cm (44st), 8in/20cm (48st, shown), 8.6in/22cm (52st), 9.3in/24cm (56st), 10in/25.5cm (60st).
Skills For both versions: Knit, purl, knit in the round, slip stitches, cabling without a cable needle (includes brief tutorial), instructions included for W&T short rows (you may substitute another short row method).
Toe-up Skills: Cast off, M1 increase, toe-up sock cast on of your choice (“Judy’s Magic Cast On” OR figure-eight cast on, OR Turkish cast on).
Cuff-down Skills: Kitchener stitch (includes brief tutorial), K2tog decrease, cuff down sock cast on of your choice (long tail OR twisted German).
Accessibility Notes: Charted & written instructions for pattern stitch provided on same page in separate columns (otherwise, no columns except abbreviation key), 12 point serif font with bold 14 point headings.
