Slug Bud
Slug Buds for children -- grown-ups -- cats -- dogs
Make Slug Buds for everyone!
Make any size!
Get ready to populate your world with Slug Buds! Let’s create a universe of Slug Bud fun.
Knitted flat, this super-simple, sweet pattern is so satisfying and addictive to knit.
You can tell because I knitted many of the Slug Buds you see here for my previous Etsy store, Lullaby Lily and sooo many more! {Previously known as ‘Uncommon Slugs’.}
Eco Slugs, Punk Slugs, Warrior Slugs, Love Slugs, Elegant Slugs, Wounded Slugs, Cosmic Slugs, Striped Slugs, Ghost Slugs, Gardener Slugs, Ballerina Slugs, Banana Slugs, Water Slugs, Hairy Slugs … creating them is an unstoppable force of evolutionary nature!}
This pattern is totally scalable - you use the same stitch counts and number of rows no matter what yarn or needle size you’re using.
For example, DK yarn on 3.75 mm needles makes a Small Slug Bud; Worsted or Aran on 4.5 mm = Medium; Chunky on 6 or 8 mm = Large. What about Bulky on 12, 14 or 20 mm - great for cats to use as a kicker stress-reliever and for dogs to carry around?
The pattern always works out and creates more wonder in the world with minimal effort.
Bring joy to friends and family, smiles to colleagues, fun to all kinds of folk and laughter to all. Some Slug Buds are gentle emotional support companions, perhaps in a little boy’s pocket. Others clone themselves and dominate the universe like Storm Troopers. But no matter how they appear they are always love tokens because you created them.
Use any size single pointed needles and any kind of yarn. Rather than knitting in the round, using single pointed needles means the seam on their underside makes your Slug Bud stable and realistic, plus they feel more comfortable and don’t roll about which slugs do not like to do unless they are frightened and tense up.
Small needles will create baby slugs, so tiny, so darling - big needles will create mega action slugs.
The antennae are made using a short i-cord using two double pointed needles. I use 3.75mm / US 5 size for every Slug Buds’ antennae no matter how big or small.
Instructions are also given for grooming your finished Slug Bud. I find I can’t pick up a Slug Bud without giving it a quick groom; squidging it and forking its antennae just so.
Using natural wool roving stuffing gives better form than synthetic fibre, makes your Slug Bud feel lovely to play with and allows it to take a natural shape.
As well as children and grown-ups, Slug Buds are also loved by dogs and cats - I’ve made mega sized ones the length of my cats with cat nip inside for them to get rough with / relieve stress and giant rope ones stuffed very firmly for my dog to carry around and take to bed, {Slug Buds are not harmed in these activities, they seem to revel in it}.
