Smart-Baby Blanket
This baby blanket is quick and easy to knit, very versatile with just enough interest not to bore you silly.
The interest comes from the contrasting vertical lines that run perpendicular to the horizontal garter stitch and color striping.
The vertical lines are not just knit or slip stitches. They are created with the Showy Decrease, a simple modification to a standard decrease that turns it into a decorative element. The stitches rises up on the face of the garter knit fabric for added dimension.
The line pattern is based on the Fibonacci sequence. Wrap your favorite baby up in this blanket and maybe they’ll become a math genius!
Size
One size (30’ x 28”) but easily modifiable with a different gauge or by adding length.
Yarn
A smooth worsted-weight washable yarn.
Stripes
Color is changed every row with the 2 Main Colors working with CC1 to create first stripe then with CC2. You can change this up and have a different CC for each of the five strips if you want.
Yardage
- Total 700 yds
- 240 yards each of two main colors, 140 yards of CC1, and 100 yards of CC2. That’s 3 balls each of MC, 2 of CC1 and 1 of CC2 in a typical 50g ball.
- Sample Main Colors are white and yellow, two Contrasting Colors are green and blue.
