This shawl has evolved from the crochet fade shawl that is Holey Smokes! Lacy sections of crochet combined with gorgeous texture looks beautiful and this is something I’ve kept from the original. I love a triangle shawl but wanted something that wasn’t as deep, I was also desperate to try a Scheepjes Whirl and needed an excuse to buy one! I thought Holey Smokes! would work well with this yarn but wanted to try a shallower shawl. Therefore, we now have Smoke on the Water! This has a simple yet pretty border, that is also a new feature.

This pattern includes the written instructions, a chart diagram and step-by-step photographs of the main stitch used. For the more visual learner there’s a YouTube tutorial demonstrating the crossed treble stitch. Please read the notes and pattern before you begin.

Materials:
1x Scheepjes Whirl, 786 Dark Grape Squish, 4ply, 220g/1000m, 60% cotton, 40% acrylic.
3.75mm hook
Stitch marker (optional)

Tension: Whilst tension isn’t critical for this project, it may affect the amount of yarn used. A blocked triangle of the first 10 rows measures approximately across top: 10 inches/26cm. Corner to point: 6.5 inches/17cm. From top to point: 3.75 inches/10cm

Finished size: 84x57x35inches / 214x145x90cm

Blocking: Hand wash in warm water using liquid wool soap. Rinse. Gently squeeze out excess water then blot in a towel. Stretch and pin out. Leave to dry.

It’s possible to make this as a shawlette by making the border before the last repeat of crossed trebles.
