It’s a snap.

Because it’s quick to make. It uses chunky yarn or two strands of heavy worsted held together.

Because it’s easy. Only basic stitches -- double crochet and single crochet. Crochet in the back loop is as fancy as it gets.

Because I found a jumbo black snap, which I added to embellish one of the sample hats. A single large button works great, too. And an unadorned minimalist version is always classic.

It’s Snappy.

Because it has a polished look and can be worn with the brim up or down. Cloche/bucket hat. Fedora. Bowler. Sou’wester. Your choice.

Because it’s the sibling of my Snazzy hat, with its similar name and multiple wearing options.

Snappy is crocheted from the top down in joined rounds.

For a hat that will hold its shape, use a yarn with body, such as a heavy worsted/aran weight 180yd/165m or less per 100g or a thicker chunky weight 110yd/101m or less per 100g.
