These Snö Mittens were inspired by traditional Lovikka mittens and fittingly named after the Swedish word for snow. They are wonderfully cozy and insulating to wear; they are not only knitted in a pure wool, but have had pure wool thrums incorporated as they were made.

Famously, the first pair of Lovikka mittens were made “by mistake” in the small Swedish village of Lovikka, way up in the Arctic Circle. A young woman, Erika Aittamaa, spun some yarn and knitted a pair of simple mittens for a client, but the client was suitably unimpressed and rejected them. Luckily for us, Erika had a resourceful nature. Undeterred, she kept the mittens and rather than rework them, she washed, felted, and brushed them, and decorated the cuffs with bright embroidery. This new style caught on and the rest is history. These Snö Mittens have been designed to be roomy outer mittens, so you should be able to wear another pair of mittens or gloves underneath them.
