Snowbowl
Snowbowl is knit in the round from rim to base. The texture is created by a mixture of slipped stitches, yarn overs and bobbles. Once completed the bowl is felted. The Snowbowl stitch pattern was inspired by the large snowflakes that gently descend when temperatures are near freezing. A perfect holiday gift when filled with some thoughtful additions- maybe a plant, maybe some knitting notions.
Materials
Yarn
Woolfolk, Får (100% Ovis 21 Ultimate Merino Wool; 50g/ 142 yards) - used double throughout.
Color– 01– 2 skeins
Alternate version made with one strand of color 01 and one strand of color 21 (one skein of each).
Or approximately 240 yards / 220 meters of worsted weight yarn held double throughout.
Since this bowl will be felted, use 100% animal fibers that are not “superwash”. Test a swatch to make sure your yarn will felt before proceeding.
Needles
US 11 / 8 mm circular needle with a cable length of 16” / 40.5 mm (or needle size to obtain gauge).
US 10.5 / 6.5 mm circular needle with a cable length of 16” / 40.5 mm.
US 11 / 8 mm double-pointed needles (the magic loop technique can be substituted).
Notions
Stitch marker, tapestry needle.
Gauge
14 sts and 18 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Bobble stitch pattern pre-felted.
Size
13” / 33 mm rim circumference and 3.5” / 9 mm tall felted. Machine felting might cause some variations in size.
