Snowcat
Winter weather can be loads of fun if you can stay warm while skiing, hiking, snowshoeing or even shoveling. I came up with this design while on my way to hike with my dogs in the snowy mountains of northern Utah. The stitch pattern resembles the tracks snowcats leave when grooming the snow.
This headband was designed to use super bulky yarn to help keep the cold out. I was able to get two out of a 200g skein of yarn. A simple two pattern repeat is used and the headband length is customizable to fit your head size. Just work back and forth until you get to your desired length. Vertical gauge is therefore not that critical since you work to your desired length.
Instructions are included with links to tutorials to help with the provisional cast on and Kitchener stitch in pattern so you can create a seamless, reversible ear warmer. Don’t want to bother with these techniques? Feel free to just cast on as you’d like and bind off, then seam together.
This pattern has been tested in a few different yarns, but feel free to reach out to me with any issues you may have.
