The easy cables, garter, and lace sections of these socks make for an engaging project while showing off the beautiful luster of Earl Grey Fiber Company’s Darjeeling Sock. They are knit from the top down and feature an afterthought heel construction.
Sizes:
Women’s Small (Medium, Large). Actual foot circumference 8 (8.5, 9)” 20 (21.5, 23)cm.
Finished Sock Circumference: 1”/2.5cm of negative for a snug fit. Finished Sock Length: Toe shaping has 0.5”/1.5cm of negative ease for a snug fit. The length of the socks are worked to fit.
Finished Sock Height: 7”/18cm from cast-on edge to top of heel.
Yarn: Fingering Weight - 440 yards/402.3m,95g/3.35oz.
Suggested Yarn: Earl Grey Fiber Company, Darjeeling Sock: 75% Superwash merino, 25% nylon (463 yards/423m per 100g/3.5oz skein). Colorway is Let It Snow.
Suggested Needles: US 1/2.25 mm - 6”/15cm DPNs
OR one 9”/23cm circular
OR two 24”/60cm circulars for ‘2 circulars at a time’
OR one 40”/100cm circular for magic loop OR a 9”/23cm circular.
A spare needle/set would also be useful in shaping the heel while your other needles are in the foot of the sock (this is optional).
OR size needed to get gauge. Take time to check your gauge as it will make a difference in the fit of your socks.
Notions: Stitch markers, 2 removable stitch markers, small cable needle, and tapestry needle.
Gauge: (Stockinette in the round & measured after blocking): 20 sts and 25 rnds in 2”/5cm.
Difficulty Level: Suitable for intermediate & advanced sock knitters who are proficient at the following skills: knit & purl, knitting in the round, knitting with double pointed needles, decreasing, Twisted German Cast-On, Kitchener stitch, picking up stitches, cabling, basic lace knitting, and the afterthought heel (without using waste yarn).
