So Much Waffle
Upon moving from a southern sunny climate to the Pacific Northwest I was often asked if I thought it would effect my knitting and what I designed. It hasn’t been too long so the jury is still out, but it’s a definite maybe LOL!
As soon as it started getting cold I had the desire to knit something cozy and snuggley. I have a goal to visit all of the LYS in this area and one I have already checked off my list is Makers Mercantile where I found and fell in love with this lovely Aran weight blend of Baby Alpaca, Merino, and Mulberry silk. It cried out to me to be an enveloping, warm, textured shawl.
Typically known as the “boomerang” shawl shape, I like this side to side construction that begins with only a few stitches because if I design it correctly a knitter can easily adjust the size by adding more or less repeats. So if something smaller (or larger) would fit your needs better then you simply need less (or more) yarn!
Instead of your typical garter or stockinette to serve as the backdrop of this shawl I decided to use a simple knit/purl pattern that creates a woven texture. Just when you are getting a wee bit tired of this pattern you will come to the fun cable portion of the program to break things up in both your knitting and the visual appearance of the shawl. None of the cables are particularly challenging and everything else is k/p.
