Sock Yarn Chevron Market Bag
Knit this bright string bag with chevron motifs from sturdy sock yarn!
This pattern makes a colorful, stretchy string bag from sock yarn that perhaps doesn’t quite suit your sock preferences. It’s patterned in chevrons, so it’s a beautiful scrap project, and makes a good stashbuster for both odds and ends and full odd balls—this small yet stretchy bag only takes 50g of yarn.
For the sample, I used some pretty charming Regia 4-fadig color sock yarn in vibrant crayon colors. If you’re unable to find sock-monster-themed yarn, substitutions may feel like a step down, but they’ll be fine.
Materials:
- 50g or 218-230yds/200-210m of Regia 4-Ply sock yarn, or any other sock yarn really
- 1 set of DPNs in US4/3.5mm, or size needed for smaller gauge
- 1 set of DPNs and 1 16” circular needle in US8/5.0mm, or size needed for more open gauge
- Scrap yarn for provisional crochet cast-on
- Crochet hook, size B/2.25mm or size suited to yarn, for provisional crochet cast-on
- tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- removable stitch markers
Gauge:
Gauge for the handle strap, worked with smaller needles, is 10 sts and 9 rounds over 1”/2.54cm in pattern, lightly blocked.
Gauge for the body, with larger needles, is 21 sts and 25 rounds over 4”/10cm in pattern, blocked.
Measurements:
Across: 9”/23cm
Total Height: 12”/30cm
Height from top band: 10”/25cm
Notes:
This project uses smaller and larger needles to change the gauge dramatically. While I usually suggest a range of needles to help find your gauge, that’s not the case this time.
