A modular baby cardigan/jacket made with 4ply/fingering weight superwash yarn. I used Austermann Step because it’s soft (contains jojoba oil and aloe vera) and machine washable. Ideal for baby skin and less work for busy Mums!

Knitted in one piece to avoid (or reduce) seaming. Uses mitred squares and each piece is picked up from the last, join as you go.

This is a boxy, square design, slightly oversized in width. If you wish to add length to the body, choose a chest size with 2 in/5cm of ease for your child and pick up the bottom hem after joining the sides/sleeves to add another garter panel until you reach the desired length for your child. You can always add length later, garter stitch is stretchy and to an extent it will grow with the baby.

The sleeves are joined by picking up stitches on each sleeve and side and working a three needle bind off. If you prefer to seam or crochet the sides and sleeves, that’s fine too, it works very well.
