These cute toys are so adorable, every child (large or small) in the family will want one!
Construction: The body is knitted in one piece from a provisional cast on and worked flat on two needles right up to the top of the head (which is cast off with RS together to avoid a bulky top seam). The legs are then worked downwards from the provisional cast on. The result is one body seam which runs down the back and around the inside leg edges. The tail is knitted on before closing the body seam for the cat, or simply stitched in to place afterwards for the rabbit. Ears are picked-up and knitted along the ridge stitch which runs up the side of the head & body and helps the whole toy to bend in to shape. Finally, the arms are knitted separately and sewn in place using the side ridge stitch detail as a guide - nothing could be simpler!
The dress is worked in one piece too. Fully removable, its pretty detailing will keep its owner fascinated in play for hours.
The pattern is written for a single-coloured toy, but there is no limit to the effects you could achieve by introducing stripes or different coloured “clothes”.
There are no buttons or removable items, so this would be a perfect gift for a small baby, and having made lots of these beauties I have discovered that they work best when not stuffed too full, as squishy cuddly feels just so “ahhhh!” in tiny hands…
