Solas
Solas (Irish for light) is all about little hints of rainbows!
The hat is knit in the round; it begins with a corrugated ribbing brim; the body of the hat is knit without shaping, and it is finished with a folded hem. The top of the hat is drawn closed using an i-cord with rainbow pom poms. The pattern include pom pom guidelines.
Size: baby, toddler, child, small adult, large adult.
To fit head (40, 44, 48, 53, 58 cm / 16, 17.5, 19, 21, 23”)
Yarn
Sport or fingering weight in the following quantities:
Colour 1 (105, 140, 165, 180, 200 m / 116, 153, 180, 200, 216 yards)
Colour 2 - 7 (8m / 9 yds) each for hat and pom-poms.
The sample was knit using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in the following shades:
Col 1 (Light Blue) 202 Light Blue
Col 2 (Purple) 95 Cyclamen
Col 3 (Dark Blue) 59 Teal
Col 4 (Green) 80 Emerald
Col 5 (Yellow) 83 Butter
Col 6 (Orange) 92 Orange
Col 7 (Red) 34 Red
Gauge:
28 sts & 39 rows per 10 cm / 4” in stocking (stockinette) stitch
Needle: 2.75 mm or size needed to achieve gauge. Circular, or your preferred style for knitting in the round.
Additional Materials
Darning needle for weaving in ends
Stitch marker
For pom-poms: cardboard; pencil, ruler, compass, scissors, crochet hook
(Optional: Needle & thread for sewing pom pom)
Pom pom instructions are included; these pom poms are made using cardboard discs. It is possible to use a pom pom maker, but even colour distribution is more difficult.
