The lace border of these simple summer socks comes from traditional Scandinavian lace shawls. Normally these shawls are worked in garter stitch, so when this chart features on stockinette socks the motif appears more elongated and diamond shaped. Solskinn simply translates to sun shine.

Yarn
Garnsurr Søkke Merino (70% Merino wool, 30% Nylon, 425 / 465 yds, 100g). Colourway Fonne/Bered used. 1 skein.
Any other light fingering weight sock yarn will also do.

Needle
Gauge-size needles. The sample was made using 2.5 mm (US 1 1/2), but I expect many will need smaller needles than these to get gauge.

Foot & leg circumference
(16.5 cm, 18.75, 21.25) cm / (6.5, 7.5, 8.5)” To be worn with 2.5 cm / 1” negative ease at the widest part of the foot.

Construction
These socks are worked top-down, starting with 15 rounds of rib, before you work the lace chart around the leg. The rest of the sock is worked in plain stockinette. The heel is rather distinctive in that the heel-flap itself is fairly short, only intended to snap to the upper back of the heel. The German short-row based heel turn gives more room for the ball of the heel.
