Somany is a diamond shaped shawl knitted sideways back and forth in one piece, from tip to tip in stockinette stitch with built-in I-cord edges. The shawl is knitted with a strand of light fingering weight yarn held together with a strand of lace weight silk mohair expect the solid version which is knitted Knitting for Olive Pure Silk held double.

Note – You can knit both the Wide stripes and Wide and thin stripes version with 2 skeins of both Merino and Silk Mohair in MC and 1 skein of both Merino and Silk Mohair in CC.

OPTION 1: WIDE STRIPES

2 skeins of Knitting for Olive Merino in two colours, 100% Merino (250 m / 273 yds per 50 g) or Knitting for Olive Pure Silk, 100% Silk (250 m / 273 yds per 50 g). The sample shawl was knitted with colourways Licorice and Oatmeal and 2 skeins of Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair in two colours, 70% Mohair, 30% Silk (225 m / 246 yds per 25 g) in two colours. The sample shawl was knitted with colourways Licorice and Oat.

Gauge: 18 sts x 24 rows stockinette stitch after blocking

Size: width 30 cm / inches at widest point, length 156 cm / inches.

OPTION 2: WIDE AND THIN STRIPES

2 skeins of Knitting for Olive Merino in two colours, 100% Merino (250 m / 273 yds per 50 g) or Knitting for Olive Pure Silk, 100% Silk (250 m / 273 yds per 50 g). The sample shawl was knitted with colourways Licorice and Oatmeal and 2 skeins of Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair in two colours, 70% Mohair, 30% Silk (225 m / 246 yds per 25 g) in two colours. The sample shawl was knitted with colourways Licorice and Oat.

Note – the sample shawl used up all of the MC Silk Mohair, if you do not have any extra, you can substitute it for example with Lang Yarns Lace (58% Mohair, 42% Silk, 310 m / 339 yards per 25 g).

Gauge: 18 sts x 24 rows stockinette stitch after blocking

Size: width 35 cm / inches, length 146 cm / inches.

OPTION 3: THIN STRIPES

2 skeins of Knitting for Olive Pure Silk in two colours, 100% Silk (250 m / 273 yds per 50 g) in two colours. The sample shawl was knitted with colourways Coal and Cream and 2 skeins of Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair in two colours, 70% Mohair, 30% Silk (225 m / 246 yds per 25 g) in two colours. The sample shawl was knitted with colourways Licorice and Cream.

Gauge: 16 sts x 22 rows

Size: width 39 cm / inches at widest point, length 194 cm / inches

OPTION 4: SOLID

2 skeins of Knitting for Olive Pure Silk, 100% Silk (250 m / 273 yds per 50 g), the sample was knitted with colourway Rhubarb Juice. You can also use Knitting for Olive Merino held double but the size will be a bit different after blocking due the yarn properties.

Gauge: 18 sts x 24 rows stockinette stitch after blocking

Size: width 27 cm / inches at widest point, length 152 cm / inches
