Sonja Stole and Scarf
Knit on US size 6 32” long circular needles, the Sonja stole is a sumptuously elegant answer to blustery winter days.
The pattern includes two stole sizes and bonus instructions for a matching scarf. Uses a provisional cast-on for one of the lace borders.
Fingering or laceweight yarns are recommended for this project. The samples were worked in Madelinetosh Tosh Sock, Fearless Fibers Whisper Laceweight Merino, and Sundara Yarn’s Fingering Silky Merino.
As my inspiration for this design, Sonja Henie was a record-breaking Olympic figure skater in the 1920s and 30s, before the sport became the glamorous spectacle that it is today. With this warm lace stole wrapped snugly around her neck, I imagine her leaping and twirling gracefully across a frozen lake in her native Norway.
