Even the hottest among us occasionally finds herself in an overly air conditioned office, a drafty theater, or out and about on an unexpectedly cool evening. In these situations, a little bit of wool can be a godsend, especially when it’s combined with temperature-regulating fibers such as silk and seaweed. This shrug is an ideal project for the luxury yarn languishing in a knitter’s stash because it requires just a few skeins. A light worsted weight 50/50 merino and silk blend would substitute nicely and have a similar feel. Feel free to work the sleeves to the wrist; the lace cuff will be equally fetching there.
Those who think a shrug or short cardigan is best suited only to the young and the skinny should give this one a try over a long tank or tunic – the proportions will be surprisingly right!
Pattern Notes
This raglan shoulder, elbow-length sleeved shrug is worked back and forth from the top down (except for the sleeves, which are worked in the round). The body and sleeves are worked in stockinette stitch except where noted. Always slip stitches purlwise with the yarn in back.
A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of body sts; change to the longer needle when necessary. Do not join when working the body. Both written row-by-row and charted directions are provided for the Feather Lace panels that run along the front of the shrug and the cuffs.
