South Beach Cowl
This pattern is FREE to everyone who is at home dealing with the anxiety of the virus. It should give you an opportunity to learn a pretty tuck stitch and make a warm cowl that can bring you some joy.
This yarn gradually changes color as you knit. It starts with an orange gradating to yellow-orange, to yellow-green, to turquoise, to light grey and finally dark grey.
I purchased two cakes of the same color gradation. One cake started with the dark grey and the other with the orange. I used the orange cake as my light color (MC) and the grey as my darker background color (CC). I hung a marker on the MC cake to lesson confusion as the colors changed, about which cake was the MC. When I had worked to the middle of the cowl height (±6¼”/16cm), and both yarns were about the same color (the turquoise), I switched the cakes. This means that I started using the original grey cake for the MC and the original orange cake for the CC. And I switched the marker to indicate my new MC. This kept all of the “color” - orange to turquoise to orange - on the outside of the cowl and all of the grey on the inside.
