The gracious people that call South Dakota home were generous with their  input for this pattern. There were many suggestions for the Badlands, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse mountain carvings, the Dignity Statue, and Black Hills. But I kept hearing an idea that was intriguing. 

Buffalo! 

I honestly had no idea how I would incorporate buffalo into a knit sock! I did a quick search to look at the shape of buffalo, and I found that this plaid pattern that I had seen my whole life was named “Buffalo Plaid”!  Bonus that this is one of my son’s favorite fabric colorways!

A note about color choices! You’ll want to choose two very different colors, and a third that looks like a blend of the other two. For example, black, white, and gray. Or blue, yellow, and green. Be sure to place the color that looks like a blend of the other two in the CC1 spot.
