This pattern was mostly knit by the lake during a very hot summer week. Between knitting rounds on the sock, I would apply Sunscreen to my kids and myself. It became a joke on the dock that the fibre content of my sock should include SPF30. Considering the very bright yellow of the yarn, this seemed like the perfect name for this design.
SPF 30 is worked from the top down starting with a picot cast on. The simple 2 row lace pattern is on the front and back of the leg and continues onto the heel flap. The heel is worked as a half handkerchief heel. The lace pattern continues on the instep and top of the foot while the sole is worked in stockinette. The sock ends with a wedge toe that is grafted closed using Kitchener Stitch.
Pattern instructions are given for extra narrow width (7 inch/ 18 centimetre), narrow width (7.5 inch/ 19 centimetre), medium width (8 inch/ 20 centimetre), wide width (9 inch/ 23 centimetre) and extra wide width (10 inch/ 25 centimetre).
