Spice Must Flow is a pair of socks inspired by the fictional universe in Frank Herbert’s scifi novel series Dune.

Don your stillsuit and step into the sweeping sands of Dune with a toe-up sock pattern that has lots of twisted stitches and unexpected turns. Each section will keep you on your toes (pun intended!) but the ensemble forms an interconnected whole. The socks are worked from the toe-up in (light) fingering-weight sock yarn. Choose a solid or semi-solid color in a round, smooth yarn to let the stitch pattern shine.

The pattern comes in three sizes (60, 64, and 68 stitches) and with two toe options. Both foot and leg length are adjustable within the stitch pattern. Right and left socks are mirror images of each other and can be worked two at a time.

The pattern is written with both metric and US terminology. Both written and charted instructions are given.

• Kässäkerho Pom Pom BFL Sock (75% superwash BFL, 25% nylon, 425 m/100 g, 465 yd/3.53 oz), 1 skein in the colorway Kupari
• Or approx. 350 [380, 420] m / 380 [420, 460] yd of (light) fingering-weight sock yarn

Needles
2.25 and 2.5 mm / US #1 and #1½ double-pointed or circular needle(s) or size needed to obtain gauge

Notions

• Removable stitch marker (2 if working TAAT)
• Darning needle

TECHNIQUES USED
This pattern uses the following techniques: working small circumferences in the round, lace, twisted stitches, and German short rows. Ability to follow charts is recommended but written instructions are also provided for the stitch patterns.

The pattern assumes knowledge of a cast-on and bind-off method for toe-up socks; references are given for a few alternatives.

Spice Must Flow on Frank Herbertin Dyyni-scifikirjasarjasta inspiroitunut sukkapari.

Näissä varpaista varteen neulottavissa sukissa on paljon kierrettyjä silmukoita ja yllättäviä käänteitä. Jokainen osio pitää neulojan varpaillaan (kirjaimellisesti!) mutta kokonaisuus soljuu kuin tuulen mukana vaeltavat hiekkadyynit. Valitse sukkiin fingering-vahvuista, napakkakierteistä sukkalankaa. Vaaleahkot yksiväriset tai semisolidit värit ovat suositeltavia, jotta pintaneule ei huku.

Ohjeessa on kolme kokoa (60, 64 ja 68 s) ja kaksi kärkivaihtoehtoa joko kapeampaan tai leveämpään jalkaan. Sekä jalkaterän että varren pituutta voi muokata mallineuleen rajoissa. Oikea ja vasen sukka ovat toistensa peilikuvia ja ne voi neuloa yhtä aikaa.
