Spring Etude Shawl
Spring Etude is a triangular shawl worked from top down, edged with an elegant lace border and finished with pretty scalloped points.
The pattern contains fully written instructions for both the main body and the lace border. In addition, charts are provided for the lace border.
Approx. Finished Dimensions (Blocked):
Small: 52” (132cm) wingspan, 18” (46cm) spine
Medium: 58” (147.5cm) wingspan, 23” (58.5cm) spine
Large: 64” (163cm) wingspan, 28” (71cm) spine
Skills Required:
- Firm knowledge of and experience with basic Tunisian crochet techniques, specifically how each row is worked as two separate passes, how to work basic Tunisian stitches (Tunisian simple stitch, Tunisian knit stitch), yarn overs, increases and decreases, as well as how to bind off your work.
- Working with lace-weight yarn
- Managing a large number of stitches
- Reading charts or following written lace instructions
- Blocking

A picture tutorial, walking through the first four rows, including an unusual method of creating a nice clean top edge is included in the pattern.
Materials and Tools:
- Approx. 705 (940, 1175)yd/645 (860, 1075)m of lace weight/2-ply yarn {Sample shown in Malabrigo Lace: 100% baby merino wool, 470yd/430m per 50g skein, shade 37 Lettuce, 1.5 (2, 2.5) skeins}
- Tunisian crochet hook with extension in size H 8 (5mm) or size needed to achieve gauge
- Standard crochet hook in size K 10 1/2 (6.5mm) for base chain
- Approx. 40 removable stitch markers
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
