Brilliant gems of airy lace cascade along the bottom edge of the Spring Mills Shawl.
This asymmetrical shawl begins with a few stitches and grows to the opposite edge. The lace border is established along the bottom with a stockinette main body along the top. Instructions are included for two sizes; the pattern is also easily adapted to use up all the available yarn.
The sample was knit using a gradient mini-skein set, but the shawl could also be worked in a solid, semi-solid, or speckled colorway.
Gauge is not critical for this pattern, but using a heavier weight yarn or larger needles will affect the size of the finished shawl.
Instructions are both written and charted.
Size:
51 (65)” / 129.5 (165) cm long and 20 (25)” / 51 (63.5) cm at its widest point
Yarn:
Approximately 500 (650) yds / 457 (594) m of fingering weight yarn
Needles:
US size 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles, at least 32” / 80 cm in length
Gauge:
24 sts x 36 rows per 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette Stitch after blocking
22 sts x 34 rows per 4” / 10 cm in Lace Pattern after blocking
Exact gauge is not critical but will affect the size of the finished shawl and the amount of yarn needed.
Notions:
Stitch marker, yarn needle
