This design is a variation of the Tzatziki Scarf and creates a checked pattern instead of vertical stripes. The sample scarf used a solid color A with a variegated color B for a plaid-like result. For a more pronounced checkerboard effect, use two contrasting solids. I-cord edging adds a nice finishing detail.

YARN: Two different colors of the same weight yarn. Sample shown in Hidden Valley Farm & Woolen Mill 2 Ply (100% Coopworth wool); Color A: green, 2 skeins (1 each for scarf and edging); Color B: variegated, 1 skein.

NEEDLES: US 9/5.5 mm (scarf) and US 10.5/6.5mm (edging)

NOTIONS: 2 colors of waste yarn (same yarn weight as working yarn), one stitch marker, yarn needle

GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 inch

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Width: 6 1/2” Length: 60”

NOTES:
This item is worked flat using the IODK Technique.
Half Twist: Change colors on the opposite and facing sides by moving the front working yarn to the back, and vice versa.
Full Twist: Wind the working yarns around each other once and return them to same positions (opposite side and facing side). This connects the fabric layers, helping to keep them in place, without changing colors on either side.
SSK – slip 1 st knitwise, slip next st purlwise, then knit both sts together though back loops
