St. Germain is a French liquor made from the blossom of the elderberry bush. It’s still gathered into sacks by old men on bicycles in the French countryside and it really does taste a bit like flower petals. A little drop of it adds a bright, herbal element to almost any drink, and I do kind of love it.

Once I found this delicate stitch pattern, I knew it had to be St Germain! The motif is a simple combination of twisted cables and seed stitch, but the effect is detailed and complex. It looks perfect in a pale color like this blue where the texture can really pop.

I fell in love with the Bijou Spun at Rhinebeck. The 50/50 mix of cormo and yak fiber is soft and delicate and cozy. It’s perfect for accessories, and the finished hat and mitten set is light, but warm and comfortable to wear against your skin. I can only imagine a whole sweater’s worth…..
