This pattern was originally designed for the 2015 Ysolda Shawl Club.

A cosy shawl worked from the centre top downwards. It begins with a leaf (or petal) motif at the center top, then moves into a wide garter stitch triangle shaped with a yarn over spine and large yarn over holes at the edges. The deep edging is worked as a continuation of this triangle, but the increases are moved to within the stitch patterns to create a gentle curve. The edging begins with a larger version of the petal motif followed by a variation on traditional feather and fan. The shawl is completed with a picot bind off. The large holes, organic curves and sharp points were inspired by the tunneled rock formations of the sea stack Stac Shoaigh while the garter stitch and feather and fan is reminiscent of everyday ‘Hap’ shawls from the Shetland isles. Perfect for a Shetland, Soay fibre blend.
