Welcome to the PNW Slow Yarn Crawl 2021! Thank you for casting on SethanyKnits knitted pattern. This year’s SYC theme is “Vintage Reimagined.” When I think about vintage knitting I think shawls and fringe! My mom had several shawls and vintage dresses from high school that she gave me to play dress up in when I was little. Of course I pretended to be from the 1800s, something out of a Laura Ingalls book, which makes me laugh now because they were dresses my mom wore to school dances when she was in high school circa late 1970s. Star Stitch and Old Lace is also an ode to glamour years when women would walk the red carpet with a lace wrap draped over their arms. I hope you enjoy knitting this project as much as I enjoyed writing it for you.
Difficulty Level: Advanced Beginner
Size: 75-80” in length, about 24-28” in width
Yarn: 1155 yards of sport weight yarn
Sample shown in: 3 skeins of Laurel Sport (100% superwash merino) by Mosaic Moon in colorway “Exhale”
Needle: US 5 32” Circulars
Gauge: in stockinette stitch without blocking 16sts/4” and 28 rows/4” Please Note: I, naturally, have a very loose gauge. I usually decrease my needle size by 2-3 sizes when I am doing a pattern. This pattern is designed so that the star stitches open up and become very lacy and delicate. I recommend doing a swatch. If you know you usually “knit to gauge” I would recommend increasing to a size US 7. If you are a tight knitter maybe an go to a US 8. These are just recommendations since it is a stole gauge is not super critical but will change the length and width a bit give or take.
Notions: tapestry needle and crochet hook to attach tassels
