This pattern was designed as a set with the Start with a Square and Start with a Diamond hat patterns, worked up in a similar manner. ADD ALL THREE TO YOUR CART AT ONCE AND GET ONE FREE! With one skein each of worsted-weight (115 m), dk-weight (240 m), and lace-weight yarns (300 m), you should be able to make one medium size hat of each pattern. If using all three patterns, I recommend first making Start with A Diamond, then Start with A Circle, and finally, using up all your remaining yarn for Start with a Square.

This slightly slouchy beanie is worked in a worsted-weight wool yarn with garter and stockinette patterning. The hat begins in an unconventional top down method, where a diamond shape, or miter square, is knit flat. Stitches for the crown are picked up around the edge of the square and worked in the round, while increased at eight points around the crown until the final hat circumference. The body of the hat is worked straight to the brim with garter and stockinette columns, then a ribbed brim is added, which can also be worn folded double.
