Start With A Square
Start With a Square or at least with a rectangle is part of the book
Knitting and Sew On which
combines traditional machine knitting with special cut and sew techniques. The charts included in Start With a Square will allow you to knit the basic block for a blouse, skirt or other sweater pieces, then use the detailed cut and sew instructions for finishing armholes, necklines, cardigan bands and so on. Most pieces begin with traditional knitted in hems. 5 options are provided. 6 gauges are given.
Virtually any machine knitted fabric may be used, although smooth stockinette is certainly the easiest to work with. Knit an appropriately sized rectangle, then move on to one of the many finishing techniques in Knitting and Sew On. These go far beyond traditional cut & sew. Included subjects are: interfacing knits when necessary, waistbands, armholes, vests, bias binding, necklines, assorted hems both knitted and sewn, double needle stitching, use of a blind hemmer, assorted acardigan bands, lining blouses and skirts, perfect drape waistline.
The entire book is 49 pages, 5 of which are devoted to the Start With A Square pattern.
