Sock-weight yarns of all permutations – full size, minis, and partial skeins – multiply in my stash when I’m not looking. The goal of this design is one that is interesting to work on, doesn’t require my complete concentration, and is finished after a few evenings watching TV.

It was a pleasant surprise to discover that I used about 18g of yarn for the samples and they took only a few cups of chai (and hours) to work up.

Knit on the bias, this hair ribbon is knit in a pattern of two straightforward rows. In the first, the stitch pattern is worked. The second row, by contrast, is simply knitting – as well as creating the bias shaping.

Once the pattern is established after the first few rows, it is possible to work it while contemplating the meaning of chai.
This versatile stitch pattern is one that shines in solids, kettle dyed, variegated, and speckled yarns. The fabric is worked on a larger needle so it will open up and stretch.

While fiber content is not crucial, a smooth yarn will allow this stitch pattern to shine.
