Free knitted gift bag pattern for a gorgeous bag to use as an alternative to throw-away paper.
Perfect for your yarn stash - either aran-weight oddments, or a combinations of thinner yarns held together.
Knitted in the round OR knitted flat and seamed.
YOU WILL NEED
Yarn: Approximately 50-80g in total of aran-weight yarn (10ply/worsted weight).
Oddments of standard aran-weight yarn for stripes, or use a single colour throughout.
Or try 2 strands of 4ply with 1 strand of mohair or brushed alpaca, for a marled effect.
Or try 1 stand of double knitting (light worsted) with 1 strand of mohair or brushed alpaca.
For knitting in the round: 5mm (US 8) circular needle (40cm length) or double-pointed needles (DPNs), and a pair of 5mm (US 8) straight needles.
For knitting in rows: 5mm (US 8) straight needles.
Extras: Wool needle; stitch holders; stitch marker; 1m of ribbon or cord; 4 small beads.
TWO FINISHED SIZES: SMALL (LARGE)
Approximately 15cm (20cm) 6in (8in) wide (when flat) and 18cm (23cm) 7in (9in) long.
Skill level: Easy and suitable for all level of knitters, because two options are included:
Knit in rows and sew the side seams; or knit in the round and sew the bottom seam.
Techniques and stitches used: Knit flat in rows or knit in the round; knit stitch; purl stitch; casting on; casting off; yarn over; simple decrease (knit 2 together).
