Isn’t it great when Lady Luck pays us a visit? Whether she leads you to finding money in an old handbag, delays the train for an extra minute when you are running late, wins you that competition or lets you win at yarn chicken, it’s always a bonus when nice things happen unexpectedly.
Stay Lucky is a pattern that celebrates all the happy wins in life. This top-down winged triangular shawl incorporates bands of horseshoe lace. Did you know that no matter which way you hang a horseshoe it is considered good luck? Hanging it in a U shape is said to keep the luck from falling out, and hanging it open-end down is said to pass luck on to anyone that walks under it! Depending on which way you look at the lace in this shawl, both scenarios are covered! Working from the top with a small row of horseshoes to celebrate the little wins, you then continue alternating bands of horseshoe lace and stockinette, ending with a long colourful stripe of horseshoes at the bottom for those big, fist-pump-in-the-air kind of wins!
The shawl is a great way to use up your colourful scraps of sock yarn or mini’s – using from 5g to 27g per colourful stripe. The contrasting colour takes 1 skein of 100g / 400m of sock or 4ply yarn.
The end result is a large, colourful, hug of a shawl, and I hope that it sends some of life’s little wins your way whenever you wear it!

Pattern Testimonials
“This pattern was a joy to make, with the brightly-coloured lace sections and soft stockinette. I can see me getting a LOT of use out of this shawl!” – Sabina
“I really enjoyed knitting this pattern, with the contrast between the relaxing stocking stitch sections and the lace sections which were tricky enough to be interesting, but settled into soothing rhythm. As a recent chart user, I found the chart easy to follow”- Jen
“The Stay Lucky Shawl is a well written pattern, provides a stitch count chart, and provides amounts to use the color stripes to help use leftover yarn!” - Lila
