The Stillness Shawl was originally released as a mystery Knitalong with 5 clues. The whole consolidated pattern is now available.

Even when it feels as if life is at a standstill, there is endless beauty to be found, and countless lessons to be learned. One of the most beautiful ways to immerse yourself in this truth is to spend a little time looking at still-life paintings. Over the centuries artists have turned their eyes and brushes to tumbling bouquets of flowers and heaped platters of fruit and game. Baskets and bowls, vegetables and old boots, candlesticks and unstrung lutes. Tables filled with ordinary, everyday inanimate objects. Anything, in fact, that will hold perfectly still.

Still-life has another name: the “study.” And that’s what it is: a chance to study your world in exquisite detail. Enter into the stillness. Slow down, take your time. Observe. Learn. It’s an opportunity to go deep. As knitters, we know something about this. When you lose yourself in making, your world shrinks to what’s right in front of you, and that can be a gift. Tiny things take on gorgeous significance. The mundane is transformed into something precious. Something to treasure.

The Stillness Shawl is a semi-circular half-pi shawl. It was designed for three colours but would also look beautiful in two or even one. It reflects the contemporary romantic style Curious Handmade shawls are known for. Stretches of relaxing, satisfying texture and touches of easy to memorise lace: while it looks intricate and impressive, there is nothing too tricky. The pattern is approachable for adventurous beginners but interesting enough to delight veteran shawl knitters.
