Stoke Newington is a village-like neighbourhood in London’s trendy Hackney. Home to media types and hip young families, “Stokey” is celebrated for its independent shops and bohemian vibe. My Stoke Newington Vest is the perfect choice for stylish little boys and girls.

So fun to knit!
The Stoke Newington Vest is a simple, seamless knit with an eye-catching cable detail. Knitters will love the quick results with just enough little details to keep things interesting. The Stoke Newington Vest’s clever construction means that the textured detail continues around armholes and the v neck, but with NO stitches to pick up. You’ll whip this fun little vest up in a flash.

How great are vests?!
Babies and toddlers love having their arms free to wriggle, crawl and get on with other VERY important business! But their adults like to keep them warm and cosy, and vests are the perfect solution. Fast-growing babies will also be able to wear these for longer - no worries about sweater arms that have become too short. Even showing a little tum is fine as they’ll have a layer underneath.

Perfect for those special skeins
Most knitters will be able to make the smallest four sizes from a single 100g skein of DK-weight yarn. I’m sure you have a special single skein in your stash that would be perfect for this project!

Sizes
Preemie (0-3 months, 6-12m, 18m, 2 years), to fit chest size 13 (15, 17.5, 19, 21)” / 33 (38, 44.5, 48.5, 53.5) cm.
Designed to fit with 0-1”/0-3 cm positive ease.
See schematic in photos for full details.

Yarn
Approximately 155 (175, 195, 220, 285) yards / 140 (160, 180, 200, 260) metres DK weight yarn.
Samples shown in Banshee Yarns Alpaca DK in Nightmare, 18m (1x100g skein) and West Yorkshire Spinners Bo Peep Pure in Rosemary, 2y (2x50g skein).
Yardage requirements include a 10% buffer.

Construction
The vest is worked seamlessly from the bottom up, beginning with a ribbed waistband. The vest is worked in the round, with a cable panel at the centre front, and both underarms. After splitting at the underarms, back and fronts are worked separately, knitting flat, with textured edging around underarms and v-neck opening. Shoulder seams are joined and finally, the edging is worked across held back sts to form back neck.
