The KAL for this shawl will run from October 15th over in my Ravelry Group Kingfisher Knits

This top-down “semi-swirl” shawl makes a stunning accessory playing with shape, colour and texture.

Only simple stitch patterns are used, to great effect. Two colours of fingering weight yarn create a beautiful feminine shawl, in which to wrap yourself up, and with an I-cord edge and Icelandic bind off the final article is beautifully finished.

Inspired by the speckles in the yarn, and the swirled shape to the shawl recalling Italian gelato, the Stracciatella shawl looks good enough to eat!

So pick two scrumptious colours, relax and knit yourself the softest treat!

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Width: 110 cm / 43.25”
Depth: 56 cm / 22”

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
3.75 mm / US size 5 circular needle, minimum 80 cm / 32” long (I used a 100 cm / 40” long needle)
6 stitch markers
Tapestry needle
Pins for blocking

YARN
Norah George Fingering Weight Yarn 100% superwash merino
(450 m / 490 yards / 100 g)
1 skein each of Colour A (tonal) and B (speckled).

Yarn used in the sample was the “Strawberry Stracciatella kit”(amounts below include a 5 g buffer):

Colour A (pink tonal): 89 g / 400 m / 435 yards
Colour B (speckled): 80 g / 350 m / 380 yards

The design is conceived for two skeins closely related in colour where Colour A is a tonal/semi-solid and Colour B is a speckled yarn. You can, of course, pick any two skeins you think go together, but I wouldn’t advise using two heavily speckled yarns as some of the details would be lost.

GAUGE
21 sts and 30 rows over 10 cm / 4” in stocking stitch after blocking.
20 sts and 30 rows over 10 cm / 4” in double seed stitch after blocking.
(see “Stitch Instructions” in pattern)
Adjust needle size if necessary to get gauge

Not every last bit of the yarn was used in knitting the sample so there is some wriggle room with gauge. However, if you are using a different yarn, which has a less generous meterage (the pattern yarn is 450 m for 100 g you need to be more attentive. Almost 400 m of Colour A was used for the sample, which is a full skein of normal fingering weight yarn.
