The ‘Stranded in the Mountains’ mittens are a simple, fun and quick project worked in DK yarn with an eye-catching colorwork accent that makes for a perfect stash buster. They are the perfect introduction to stranded colorwork and a great giftable item!
Construction
These mittens are worked in the round from the cuff up with thumb gussets; the cuffs are not meant to be folded. Both mittens are worked the same. Stranded colorwork is used to achieve the chevron mountains pattern right after the thumb gusset is complete.
After a stretchy German twisted cast-on, the cuffs of the mittens feature an intriguing 2x2 garter ribbing while the rest of the mitten is worked in basic stockinette stitch, broken by just 8 simple rounds of stranded colorwork when transitioning to the new color.
