A brim for a little shade and a modern print for a little style make this cap too cool. This project is on the adventurous side with short-row shaping and some stranded colorwork involved but there is truly no project better suited to practice new techniques than a hat. Charlie is wearing size Child. Size up or add extra length in the body for a more slouchy fit. Colorwork pattern is both written and charted. Pattern includes template for brim material.

Size: Child (Adult Small)
Finished Circumference: 18.5 (21.5)”
Gauge: 26 sts and 36 rows per 4” in stockinette
Yarn: 135 (165) yards A and 120 (150) yards B sport weight yarn, shown in Skacel Zitron Unisono in “Canary” and “Olive”
Tools: Size 4 (3.5 mm) 16” circular needles and set of 5 DPNs, stitch markers
Notions: Plastic template or other suitable washable brim material, such as a recycled milk jug or ice cream bucket

Pattern Notes

  • This hat is worked bottom-up and the brim is shaped with short rows.
