Strawberry fayre
Strawberry Fayre is a hat designed to look like a strawberry and can be worn to add a splash of colour to the cooler days of spring and autumn.
The hat is knitted in the round and features some colourwork, as well as additional pieces that are stitched on separately; it also features a small amount of embroidery.
The instructions cover five sizes, from baby to adult (the measurements refer to head circumference, measured at the widest point, just above the ears):
Baby: 14-17 inches/36-43 cm
Toddler: 16-19 inches/41-48 cm
Child: 18-21 inches/46-53 cm
Teen/woman: 20-23 inches/51-58 cm
Man: 22-25 inches/56-64 cm
Other craft(s) required, if any: Small amount of chain stitch embroidery (reference on how to do this included in the pattern)
Tools: 4 mm (US 6) circular needle at least 80 cm (31 in) in length or a set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles; 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle at least 80 cm (31 in) in length or a set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles; 4 mm (US 6) straight, single-pointed needles (optional - can work flat or 4 mm circular needles if preferred); one stitch marker; tapestry needle; bobbins for holding the different yarn colours during colourwork
Materials: One ball of Stylecraft Special DK in each of the following colours: 1010 Matador (90 100, 120, 145, 175m/95 110, 135, 160, 190 yds); 1065 Meadow (30 35, 40, 45, 45m/35 40, 40, 45, 50 yds); 1263 Citron (5 m/5 yds); 1001 White (10 m/10 yds)
Difficulty: Easy (k, p, basic stranded colourwork, knitting in the round, kfb, pfb, m1, yo, k2tog, p2tog, p3tog)
Pattern Style: Full with abbreviations; partially charted, although following the chart is optional
