Strawflower Shawl
During colder months, when usual flowers are gone from our gardens, we can still enjoy the beauty of those that are everlasting. Strawflowers are among the most marvelous of their kind. The unique texture of petals and vivid blooms of strawflowers were the inspiration behind my design.
The pattern was designed to highlight the beauty of combining kid mohair with fingering weight yarn, and can also be worked in two colors of fingering. The shawl is completed in a V-shape which is easy to knit and very comfortable to wear. Light weight and generous size make it a lovely addition to transitional weather wardrobes. Alternating stripe patterns keep a crafter entertained and are very satisfying to knit. The length of a shawl can be increased/decreased to use up all the yarn from a skein without any leftovers.
Are you ready to gather your own strawflower bouquet? ♡

Needles and Gauge
- 20 sts and 42 rows in 4” / 10cm in Garter Stitch, unblocked
- 17 sts and 36 rows in 4” / 10cm in Garter Stitch, blocked
- US 7 / 4.5mm needles on a long cable or the size needed to obtain gauge
- For any other yarn: use needles at least three sizes up from stated on the label to keep fabric airy and light
- Neither gauge nor yardage is critical for this project, as the number of section repeats can be easily adjusted
Construction
- The shawl is knit in a shape of a modified triangle with a V-line at the top of the item.
- Garter stitch works like a canvas for an unusual but simple lace pattern and stripes of stockinette with contrasting bobbles. Video tutorials for uncommon stitches are provided.
- Neither gauge nor yardage is critical for this project, as the number of section repeats can be easily adjusted. This way, you can use all the yarn from a skein without leftovers and waste.
- If you’d like to get size and drape similar to a sample, make sure to check your gauge specifically on a blocked swatch.
- Tassels can be added for an extra touch of boho and to make corners look more polished. Photo tutorial is provided.
