Striation is available through CustomFit, which means that each Striation pattern is custom-created to your choice of measurements and gauge. Patterns can be made from children through adults, and for gauges from laceweight to bulky.

Striation is a classic sweater vest that works for anyone, with fun stripes to help you use up those bits of leftover yarn from much-loved projects. The straight-silhouette, v-neck shape is easy to adapt to anyone you’d like to knit for, in any gauge you like.

This vest is an average-length, sleeveless pullover with V-neck shaping and 1x1 trim everywhere. The hem is trimmed with 1¾“/4.5 cm of rib, the neckline with ¾”/2 cm, and the armholes with ½“/1.5 cm.
The neck shaping starts 1’’/2.5 cm above the armhole shaping, to ensure this look no matter who you’re knitting for.

Dan is wearing this vest with a child’s average fit; Striation is a straight-silhouette design and has no waist shaping.

As shown, you’ll need 3 colors of yarn - the MC, and two alternate colors. However, the stripe pattern is flexible, and you should definitely feel free to mix things up however you like - make all the stripes the same color, each stripe a different color, or whatever else your preferences and available yarn dictate.

At Dan’s repeated insistence, I used Rowan Lima for this sample, in colors 888 Lima (MC), 891 La Paz (CC1), and 885 Machu Picchu (CC2). I liked the gauge 22 sts and 26 rows to 4’’ (10 cm) with the Lima.

But CustomFit will create your pattern to any gauge you specify - and for that reason, it’s difficult to give any kind of yardage advice! To estimate how much yarn you’ll need, I strongly recommend the “Stashbot” app or pamphlet by Hannah Fettig.
